U L T I M A V I (Origin/Mindscape) GENERAL Your party arrives at Lord British's Castle - three non-winged gargoyles come with you - these must be killed. After killing the gargoyles search the bodies. Take any equipment found. Talk to Lord British - he will ask you questions from the manual. Answer these then ask him about the moonstones (or orb) - you can then use the orb. He will also give you a key. Nystul tells you that you must see Lady Mariah at the Lycaem. Geoffrey tells you to speak to a warrior in Cove. This is the last time you can speak to either - they play no further part in the game. The warrior in Cove gives information about the fight at the Shrine of Compassion and about the field surrounding it. Your room is located in the West wing of the Castle - the room below the North door. In here you will find your spell book, reagents and other items. Take all of these and make sure you equip them. You may see a mouse wandering about - talk to it, but only if you have some cheese. The mouse is useful in getting a rune. Nystul's chamber contains some magic potions: RED = CURE POISON; GREEN = POISON; BLUE = RESURRECT; YELLOW = HEAL; ORANGE = SLEEP; BLACK, PURPLE & WHITE potions. (No use found for the latter three potions!). Make sure you thoroughly search the Castle - there is a key in Lord British's room (LBR), that you will need to open certain doors within the Castle and below it. Take all the items you can - most can be sold for a profit. Using the telescope in LBR will give you an indication of the outlying countryside. GUILDS There are three Guilds that you will have to join - Fighters, Thieves and Bards. Joining the Fighters Guild entitles you to procure a magic shield, Thieves Guild means you can talk to Pirates who would not talk to you before, Bards Guild means you can get a runestone. Fighters Guild: To get a Magic Shield you will have to go to Serpents Hold. Talk to the toughest Warrior there and ask to join. He will send you to the local Armourer who requires three items:- a Magic Gem, a Lump of Gold and a Serpent Shield to give you the Magic Shield. Then return to the Warrior and you will be a full member of the Guild. There is a useful weapon located in the Warrior's Bed Chamber - in the NW corner of the room there is a secret door. This leads to a magically locked chest - open the chest to find a Triple Crossbow. Bard's Guild: There are several things you need to do before becoming a member of this guild - ask the Bard in the Hall at Minoc about the runestone - he will tell you to get some Panpipes made and learn the tune to Stones, in numeric notation, STONES is 678987 876653. Ask Julia about the Panpipes. Go to Yew and ask the Mayoress about log - she will give directions to get to Ben the Logger. Buy log, return to Minoc. Go to the Log-cutter (located just SE of Julia's house), get the log cut into a plank, go to Julia and give her the plank. She will make you a set of Panpipes (Julia can also JOIN if you want her to). Find Iolo's wife, Gwenno, (Gwenno can JOIN if you want her too - Minoc) and she will teach you the stones. Return to the Bard in the Hall and he will then give you a rune. Thieves Guild: Go to Buccaneer's Den, find the secret door in the kitchen of the inn, then find the man in the house and ask him about the Guild. He will tell you to kill a woman who lives in the sewers under LB's Castle, her name is Phoenix - when you find her make sure you possess a glass sword. Do not go into combat mode - just kill her. You should find a Guild Belt - return to the Buccaneer's Den. Talk to the Guildmaster - you are now a member of this Guild. This means you get cheap rates on Guild items. MAPS The crux of the story is to find nine pieces of a tattered map to find Captain Hawkins' treasure. The locations of the map pieces are as follows: 1. Gypsy on the road to Trinsic, watch out as he will try to pickpocket you so do not fight with him. 2. Lord Whitsaber of Trinsic, you will have to see Sandy the cook first who will tell you to go to the Dungeon NE of Trinsic and bring him back a Dragon's Egg and then he will give you information about Lord Whitsaber - confront Whitsaber - usually stands on the dock - about him being a pirate - he will give you the map to shut you up. 3. The Dungeon Wrong, the old beggar in Jhelom with a hook on his hand will tell you which dungeon that the map is in - but only after you pay him. 4. Woman at Serpent's Hold, pickpocket this woman (using the spell) and you can take the map. 5. Ant's Hole, Ol' Hawknose set out for the dry land to kill the Daemon said to live there. He did not get there and is lying dead in the Ant's Hole on the lower levels. 6. Dungeon Shame - Ybarra - Ybarra is on one of the lower levels of this dungeon and is dying of starvation - give him some food and ask him about the map - watch out for the gremlins. 7. Wrecked ship near Serpent's Hold, you can search this ship only after you have spoken to Homer about the location of the maps. 8. Hermit living on Dagger Isle, the mad hermit should be asked of his part of the map - the cellars he talks about are under his piano in the corner - just move it to a different position. 9. Homer at Buccaneer's Den - ask him about the tablet and the rest will follow - he will tell you where to find all the other pieces of the map bar the one held by the gypsies. The final piece of the map is held by Homer, he will give you directions as to where to find the Pirate's Cavern (he will tell you that when all the pieces of the map are put together in the right order, 3 by 3, the island in the top right hand corner is Buccaneer's Den). When you find the island marked with the 'X', find 3 stones and stand in the centre, 3 paces South, 9 paces West, 12 paces South, right next to an old dead tree, dig in patch of dirt to the South and the entrance to the Pirates Cave will be found. He requires you to bring him back the Storm Cloak (or Dark Cloak as he calls it). The Tablet and Cloak are located together. SILVER TABLET The Gypsies between Paws and Trinsic give some information (incorrect!) as to the whereabouts of the second silver tablet. Once you have found the second tablet, take it to Lady Mariah at the Lycaem - she will then decipher the writing and tell you to go and locate Sin V'rall in the desert for more information. SIN V'RALL Sin V'rall tells you that you need to be able to fly to reach one of their sacred temples. For this you will need a Balloon. He will also tell you that the mysterious Captain John is located in the Dungeon Hythloth - find him - he will teach you to speak the Gargoyles' language. BLACKTHORN'S CASTLE Go to Blackthorn's Castle - kill the Rabbits - use a powder keg to blast open the front door - use as many Dispel Field spells as you need to, to remove all the fields present - search for any and all secret doors - use the ladder to go down - when you find a horse with two heads, talk to it - take the RIGHT path - DO NOT not go to the left as you will end up in a lava pit! Go down to the next level and you will find a body - search the body and you will find a set of Balloon Plans. Return to the Castle above - kill as many of the Mutant Monsters as possible - you can talk to the Magician who lives there if you want to, but no useful information is gleaned from him. PENUMBRA THE SEER Penumbra lives on Verity Isle. Her house has several field spells leading towards her chambers - these will need to be removed. Ask her of your fortune - she will request money - give her one Gold Piece to start with, then two, then three until she requests ONLY ONE MORE GOLD PIECE - she will tell you that the Vortex Lens will need repair and that another Blue Lens is required before the quest is complete. There is a Skeleton and other objects of interest as well as a Bag of Reagents - make sure she is asleep before you take anything. BALLOONING Look at the plans and they will tell you what you require. The Basket is a special item that can only be made by the Bee-Hive Maker at Minoc. You will need to go and have some of your Spider Silk woven into thread, thee is only one woman who can do this (ask the Tailor in Britain who it is - Charlotte at New Magincia) - go to Trinsic and find the female of the three Tailors - ask her about the plans and she will make you a Silk Bag. Find a Cauldron - the one in the kitchen at Bucanneer's Den will do - make sure you bought some Rope from the Rope-Maker in Trinsic - then use the Balloon Plans and a fine blue Balloon appears. The Balloon will only travel in the direction of the wind so exercise caution. The Balloon is only necessary when you are attempting to go to the Shrine of Singularity in the Gargoyle's Domain. VORTEX CUBE & VORTEX LENS The Vortex Cube is held by the Ogres in the Castle in the mountains between Cove and Minoc. Talk to the little boy and his Ogre step-parents. Papa Ogre has the key for the door in the cellar leading to the Vortex Cube - he will only give you the key if you ask him about the cube and AFTER you have caught him a fish. Talk to Tiny about the cellars for most of the information that you need. Using the Fishing Rod in the Ogre's Sleeping Quarters - when you have caught a fish return and talk to the Male Ogre - he will give you the key. The secret door on the ground level leads to a chamber where you can open the doors below on the first level of the cellar. Using a combination of Unlock Magic and Dispel Field Spells you should be able to locate the Vortex Cube. Take the cube and leave. The Vortex Lens is located in the Hall of Knowledge in the Realm of the Gargoyles. CAPTAIN JOHN AND THE DUNGEON HYTHLOTH Find Captain John - in a little house in the lowest level of the Dungeon Hythloth - learn the Gargoyle language by using and looking at the Scroll he gives you. THE GARGOYLE'S REALM Go to the Realm of the Gargoyles and find Naxalator the Seer - he will tell you to find the Gargoyle's King Draxinlator - tell him you wish to surrender - he will put an Amulet of Submission onto you - you cannot remove this, but it does mean that you can walk freely amongst the Gargoyles without being attacked. Take the broken Vortex Lens from the Hall of Knowledge and then go and talk to Naxalator the Seer. Ask him about the Vortex - he will tell you to go and read the Book of Rituals in the Hall of Knowledge and find the Lens-Maker to the NE of his house. Ask the Lens-Maker about the Lens or Vortex and he will repair it. Return to Naxalator - talk to him. Read the Book of Rituals and return to Naxalator. He will tell you to find the Human Lens-Maker who will make a Human equivalent of the Vortex Lens. SHRINE OF SINGULARITY & THE CODEX Talk to all the Gargoyles in their Domain - especially about the Shrine or the Codex. Some useful information is obtained from Captain Bolesh located in the Healer's House. Use the Balloon to fly over the mountains to get to the Shrine of Singularity. Talk to the Shrine - it will tell you that you will have to visit the Three Temples of the Gargoyles, CONTROL, PASSION and DILIGENCE. These can be reached using the Moonstone. All you are required to do is find the Mantra's of each Shrine - these being (in order): Un, Or or Us. Return to the Shrine of Singularity and talk to it. The Mantra of SINGULARITY is UnOrUs - it will then ask you a question pertaining to who do you require the Codex for - the answer is: ALL. The Codex then sends you on a quest to the Codex (you can now enter the Codex Chamber without impedence from the Guardian Statues). HUMAN CONCAVE LENS Go to Verity Isle and find Ephemirus - show him the Vortex Lens. He will ask you to bring him a Glass sword and he will make a 'concave copy' of the Vortex Lens. RUNESTONES AND MOONSTONES Before you can release an Altar from the Gargoyle Protection Field, you must find it's corresponding Runestone - once you have done this, go to the Altar and use the Runestone. You will have to kill Winged and 'normal' Gargoyles first. Talk to the Mouse, give it some cheese and ask it to join. Return to Jhelom and go to the Inn. Put the Mouse in 'SOLO' mode and go into the mouse hole in the Inn. Take the Runestone and return to the Party. Return to 'PARTY' mode and take the Rune from the mouse then tell the mouse to leave. 7.RUNE OF JUSTICE: From the Prisoner in the Jail at Yew. Speak to the Mayoress in charge and ask her for permission to see the Prisoner. Show the Note to the Jailer. Take the key and then use the key to open the East door. Go SOUTH and talk to the Prisoner. Ask him of the Rune and when asked if he will be released, lie to him and say YES. The Rune is under a plant at the Inn. 8.RUNE OF HUMILITY: New Magincia. Go and see the Mayor of the town. He will ask you if you know who is the most humblest of people; CONOR STARFALCON is the humblest. FINISHING ULTIMA VI Go and see Naxalator the Seer. Ask him about the Codex and he will tell you that you will need to return to the Codex and place a Convex Lens (VIOLET VORTEX LENS) exactly midway between the Codex and the Flame of Singularity (PINK FLAME or FLAME ON THE RIGHT) so that light converges from the flame onto the Codex. Then place the Blue Concave Lens exactly midway between the Codex and the Flame of Infinity (BLUE FLAME or FLAME ON THE LEFT) so that its light diverges over the Codex. Then place all eight Moonstones in the Vortex Cube. Set it on the ground in front of the Codex and use it. The Codex then returns from whence it came. Lord British and Nystul appear then the King of the Gargoyles appears......this will be the END OF ULTIMA VI!!! Never buy a ship - skiffs are far better for travelling around in - you can land anywhere and one of your party can carry it when you go overland. 2. At low levels of Experience, always fight the Trolls, Cyclops and Headless's on the First and Second Levels of the Sewers under Lord British's Castle - they possess lots of goods and money which can be sold in Britain. 3. Always let characters with High Dexterity join and let them use long range weapons. 4. When fighting Dragons, cast DISABLE at them followed by MAGIC ARROW - it usually kills them. 5. When fighting Daemons, charm one of them and he will fight on your side. 6. If you want to take an item from a member of the general public or anyone who sells you something, never do it in their presence as they will attack you and/or never speak to you again. Cast SLEEP on them if in doubt. 7. Eighth Level Spells can only be learned from the Wisps and Xiao on Verity Isle. 8. Use POWDER Kegs to blow up metal doors - locked wooden doors can be attacked until they eventually break open. 9. There is a Magic Armour under a plant near Conor's House in New Magincia. 10. Ignore all the clues hidden under items scattered around the world - no use for them. 11. The Wizard of Yew can be reached by locating the gap in the mountains behind the NORTHMOST Guards Tower above Lord British's Castle - keep trying to go East until you reach a gap where you can go Northwards - location of his house is 20 deg N, 2 deg E. 12. A good buy is the SEXTANT from Ephemirus (30 GP). 13. Buy some Swamp Boots at the earliest opportunity from the Japanese Armourer in Yew. 14. Never rest if there is no food in your party - you will die. 15.
