D A R K W A R S (Budgie Licenceware - Atari ST) This file contains the complete solution to Darkwars. This is the simplest and quickest way to complete the game. However you will probably need to explore other areas of the game to gain enough experience and levels to survive the later stages of the game. The solution is divided into parts so that you may just read the part you are stuck on if you wish. PART ONE - SALIN You start the game in the local inn. At the start you have no idea how to go about solving the mystery of what has happened to the south. Therefore the first thing to do is to ask somebody about it. The people of Eaglesmount, however, will be loathed to tell you anything unless they happen to like you. You should only talk to important characters (Those with their own names) and not to the warriors or the dwarf etc. as they will tell you nothing. You should find a Magic User called Salin in the Inn. He is an adventurer and will not only tell you something useful, but can also be persuaded to Join you on your quest. First you will have to make friends with him. If you have a high Charisma (above 8) and are in a good mood you could try talking to him. If you have a low charisma (below 5) don't talk to anyone (you can, however ask them about things). The other way to make friends with Salin is to give him something you are carrying. Then you can ask him to Join you. Once he is a member of your party ask him about the South. PART 2 - THE KEYS While you are in Eaglesmount it is a good idea to collect the keys you will require later on. The first one is found in the local jail which is in the bottom right corner of the town. At this stage it is a good idea to avoid the Warriors if you can. Having collected the key you should return to the main street and enter the warehouse that leads off it (you will have to open the door with the key you have just found). The Warehouse is the only door leading off to the side of the main street so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Inside the warehouse you will find another key. This is required to open the doors to the towers. The other key that you require can be found on the top floor of the temple. Enter the temple (at the end of the Main street) and walk forward to the two tables. Carry on over these tables and you will find a hidden door. Go through this and walk along the corridor to the stairs going up. Go up the stairs and along to the end of the hallway (you may have to fight the wolf) and pick up the key. Walk to the north wall and search along it for the hidden door. Go through this and carry on north until you reach the next wall. Turn east along this wall until you reach the key. Try to aviod the various creatures found on the way or fight them if you prefer. Take the key, which is needed to unlock the door at the top of the tower of neutrality, and return down the stairs and out of the temple. While you are in Eaglesmount it is advisable to buy a pole from the hardware shop, as you will need it later. PART 3 - THE WISE ONE Salin will tell you where the Wise One lives when asked. To find his cave you need to leave Eaglesmount through the main gates and follow the track west through two maps. You will come to a road leading off to the right. Turn up here end enter the cave at the end. Inside this cave you will find Borfen (the Wise One) and you should ask him about the south. He will tell of the existence of the towers, the castles and the Dark forest. You should ask him about all of these. Now you should leave the cave (climb up the stairs) and follow the path back to the T-junction and then turn left so that you are travelling back the way you came. PART 4 - THE TOWER OF NEUTRALITY Follow the path until you reach the second milestone and then turn left. Continue in this direction (South) and you will come to a large building on the left. Unlock the door to this building and enter it. Walk to the end of the corridor and take the right hand door and then climb the stairs. Go through the hidden door and walk along the passage way. Kill the cyclops and walk up the stairs. Drop all heavy equipment here so that you are carrying less than 400. Now use the pole to vault over the pit. Follow the passage to the door on the right. Unlock this, go in and find the Tower Lord (the magic user). Ask about the South or the Towers. Collect anything you may find useful from here and leave the tower. PART 5 - THE TOWER OF GOOD Travel north up to the T-Junction. It is a good idea to return to Eaglesmount at this point (right) to re-equip and gain more levels. If you chose not to then turn left and follow the road west until you reach the corner (3 maps away). Turn south and continue on the road until you reach the river. Cross the river and continue South and you will come to the Tower of Good. Unlock the door and walk to the stairs at the end of the corridor, killing the Warrior on the way. Climb them and then walk to the other end of the corridor and climb either of the sets of stairs. Walk along the corridor and enter the door on the left. Find the tower lord and ask him about the South/Towers. Leave the tower and turn to the south. PART 6 - DARK FOREST Continue south to the T-junction and then turn left. You are now about to enter the Dark Forest. You will have to leave the path and fight your way through. The correct path is shown on the map. Once you return to the path continue east to the tower of Evil. The door can only be unlocked by the unlock spell or by picking the lock. There is no key. Enter the Tower. PART 7 - TOWER OF EVIL Follow the corridor around to the stairs. You will have to Kill the Wight, disable 2 traps, kill another Wight, disable a trap, kill a vampire and disable another trap. Climb the stairs and follow the corridor, kill the spectre (it is invisable), kill the vampire, disable the hidden trap, kill the halfling adventurer if you cannnot persuade him to join your party, kill the ogre, disable another hidden trap, kill two wights, disable the hidden trap, join or kill the Magic User Adventurer and climb the stairs. Turn immediately right and disable the hidden trap. Do not try to walk around as you will fall down the hidden pit. Kill the vampire, Disable the trap, kill the Spectre (invisable), go through the hidden door at the end of the passage on the right, kill the dragon, go through the hidden door and kill the Tower Lord.
