Virus Killer ! This handy GEM-based utility will seek out and destroy viruses that have installed themselves in the bootsector of your disc. This is the most common type on the ST. Boot up the program, insert a disc into the drive and and click on the Check button. Amessage will be printed in the dialogue window stating whether the disc is clear or infected. Click on the Kill button to kill a virus. The program loads the first sector of the disc - the boot sector - and checks that the first two bytes are zero. If they are , all is well. If they aren't the bootsector probably contains an executable program. Arcade games that run automatically when you switch on have a perfectly normal and harmless executable program in the boot sector and the utility may think that the disc is infected with a virus. Don't try to kill it or you may ruin the disc. Ordinary discs don't have programs in the boot sector so destroy it if one is found. To make sure your micro isn't infected switch on with nothing in the disc drive and wait until the desctop appears. Double click on VIRUS.PRG , insert the infected disc and click on the Kill button.
