DRAGONBREED ---------------------------- Software house: Activision Game type: Shoot 'em up ---------------------------- Dragonbreed is another new game in the shoot 'em up clone. It is a conversion of a coin op made by Irem, but as I haven't seen the coin op,I can't compare the game with anything. It all starts with an Activision logo, followed by the Arc logo. Arc is the company who has converted the game. After those two logos the loading picture is shown. It is a really nice picture! When it has loaded all data,a last pic is shown, where it stands:"Dragon Breed Push start button".That pic switches between another where all credits are shown. Well, when you at last push the button,it starts to load again. Now get ready for the game.... You are a small man riding on a large dragon with a very, very long tail. When you press the button you shoot quite small missiles but during the game you can get better stuff, like dragonfire (the dragon becomes red when you have this),but only if you manage to pick up the small things which are everywhere on the stage. If you hold the button pressed for a while, you will be able to shoot really "cruel"! The longer you hold, the better shots you get. Your small man can climb off the dragon sometimes and pick up those things that you want (you know what I mean!). But watch your head! If you are hit,you have lost one life (but not if the dragon is hit). You have only three lives which I think is too bad-the game is very hard. Another small problem is that you have a special time to complete the stage. The graphics in the game are very good. The background (at the first stage) is some blue mountains with a blue heaven. The sprites are very well-drawn and detailed. The scrolling is smooth and it's not only horizontal scrolling:you can also fly up and down with the dragon. The music is very bad. It's annoying and you can't concentrate your mind on the game. I think this game is quite good as a shoot 'em up game, but I have seen better. The game could have been better if it wouldn't be so hard to complete the first stage....and second...and.... The game comes on two single-sided disks. At last:my advice to you....Buy another game, there are better. Graphics: 90 Sound: 20 Gameplay: 70 Value for money: 60 Review by Sorcerer of The Digital Dictators!
